Lukasz Fabianski has been at Arsenal since 2007. A keeper for the future signed from Legia Warsaw, many Arsenal fans thought the young Pole would eventually solve the pressing goalkeeping problem at Arsenal at that time. Fabianski’s Arsenal career had a rocky start of injuries and horror shows. A lot of pressure was put on his young shoulders as he had to back up the uncertainty of Almunia and Lehmann. However he has come a long way now and is a relatively stable keeper and is now looked at as our second choice keeper.
The question is will Fabianski be satisfied playing second fiddle to Wojciech Szczesny?
Szczesny has been a solid goalkeeper since taking over the reins of Almunia last season. A commanding goalkeeper that Arsenal have been looking for for quite a while, Szczesny, coincidentally having the same nationality as Fabianski, is now the first choice keeper for Arsenal and he has gained the respect of his fellow defensive colleagues.
In my opinion, Fabianski should look to leave Arsenal to salvage his career. He has the talent to be a top class goalkeeper but I don’t think it will happen at Arsenal for him. When Fabianski had the chance at Arsenal, he blew it. He only had a couple of good performances and that was it after Szczesny grabbed his chance with both hands (sorry for the pun!). Fabianski would surely shine brighter in another club where he can get regular first team football rather than at Arsenal. In Arsenal (as well as for Poland), he can only be considered if Szczesny gets injured.
Nevertheless, if Fabianski bites the bullet and waits for his chance (which will surely come at some point) then just maybe he could be a top keeper at Arsenal in years to come.
