With the transfer window fully underway and with Arsenal yet to make much movement and activity regarding incoming players, times have become a bit desperate for Arsenal fans as we begin to worry that we will soon lose all our main targets, like we normally do because of being too slow and unwilling to negotiate.
So with time running out, although I say that but there’s still in fact about 5 weeks to go before the closure of the window, which in itself is plenty of time to close up several deals. The question is will those players be good enough or the usual average buys that we have to end up settling for? But back to the main point and with time running out, many believe that we should start to look at our priorities.
Originally 1 addition was wanted for each area in the team. A goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder and an attacker. Unfortunately Gooners, Yaya Sanogo doesn’t count which means as of this moment, despite being 8 weeks into the window, we are yet to make any progress. So which area is the most important?
A goalkeeper would be good and I felt we could sign up Cesar quite easily this summer, but as the media world seems to have little knowledge on his situation, who knows if a deal will be done? For me it’s an area that needs strengthening to challenge Szczesny, however ultimately I don’t feel it’s completely necessary and if I’m honest, I’d be happy to have the Polish international between the sticks for Arsenal next season.
At first a defender wasn’t high on my priority list. I felt we had admirable players in Kos, Per and Verm however it’s changed a lot since then and Vermaelen and Koscielny have since been injured and with Miquel still being uncertain I now feel that signing a defender is very important. Which player though is the real question now?
A midfielder was also high on my list but only a Defensive Midfielder, I feel this is the only area of midfield that we lack in and we have done for several years. Fellaini would have been good but like Cesar the rumours have gone cold.
Lastly a striker and this is the most talked about area at the club. With Higuain now off the cards and Rooney extremely unlikely to sign, Suarez remains as our last option. I feel it’s very important we sign a new striker; however I’m unable to decide how high a priority it is.
In fact in my opinion all of the positions are equally as important and it just goes to show how much of a reshuffle our entire team needs if we are to get it to the stage at which we fans believe it should be aiming for. It’s going to be difficult next few weeks for Wenger but let’s hope he can pull of some major deals before the window closes on 2nd September. What do you think, Arsenal fans? Should Wenger focus his attention on one or two positions?
